On Wednesday 29 August our School hosted the CCC Southern Cluster Public Speaking Final. St John’s Woy Woy, St Patrick’s East Gosford, OLR Wyoming, Our Lady Star of the Sea Terrigal and Holy Cross Kincumber each selected their top two public speaking students from Year 6 to attend the final. Each student had a three minute prepared speech and then had ten minutes to compose a one minute speech on an unseen impromtu topic. We were fortunate to have three highly qualified adjudicators attend the final – Lucy Wicks (the Federal member for Robertson), Adam Crouch (the State Member for Terrigal) and Pollyanna Forshaw (a former high school and drama teacher) who all commented on the quality of public speaking by all students. The two Holy Cross speakers finished in the top three at the final – Fraser B finished in second place overall and Harry M finished in third place overall. Fraser’s prepared speech topic was “Speaking Up to Make a Difference” and his impromptu topic was “My Favourite Season Is…”. Harry’s prepared topic was “Space” and his impromptu topic was “Keeping safe on the web”.
Fraser will now progress to the Diocese of Broken Bay Public Speaking Final at St Patrick’s Asquith on Tuesday 11 September 2018 and we wish him every success.
