Holy Cross Futsal

On Tuesday June 11, Holy Cross sent 3 teams to the Central Coast Futsal Championship at Niagara Park. The kids had been training very well in the weeks leading up to the tournament and were excited for the challenge!

Our Junior Boys team from Years 3 & 4 played some excellent football and came 2nd in their group.  They made it straight to the semifinals and only just lost in a great game to Berkeley Vale Public School 2-1.

Our Senior Girls team from Year 6 only had the one group made up of 7 teams.  The girls played very well as a team and every game was extremely close.  They had a range of wins, draws and losses throughout the day and finished 4th overall, narrowly missing out on the final.

Our Senior Boys team from Years 5 & 6 played in the busiest division with a range of Public, Private and Catholic schools from around the Central Coast entering the draw.  The boys finished 2nd in their group and qualified for the knockout finals.  They won both their quarter-final & semi-final to qualify for the Grand Final at the end of the day against Central Coast Sports College.  It was a hard-fought game and our boys did well to restrict their free-scoring opponents to minimal chances.  In the end, it was a 2-1 defeat and our boys were awarded runners-up for their division.  This means they have qualified for the NSW Futsal Championship at Penrith next month.  Well done boys!

A special mention to our Junior Girls team who trained very hard and enthusiastically for the day but couldn’t attend due to opponents pulling out of the tournament.

I was very proud and impressed with the manners that all the children showed during training sessions and the respect they showed their opponents, be it a win or a loss.  They all were great ambassadors for HCK and represented our community with pride.

Well done Holy Cross!
