Three of our students were given the opportunity to become international recording artists during the July School Holidays. Nyah C and Ava M in Year 6 were invited by Andrew Chinn, our long time school friend and composer of Liturgical Music for children, to join his Butterfly Choir in recording his new CD. Ava’s younger sister Sophie went along to watch the recording process and was invited by Andrew to join in on the day due to her enthusiasm for learning the songs so well whilst Ava was learning them. The three girls recorded seven songs for the new CD as part of a choir of children formed from the Catholic Dioceses of Broken Bay, Wollongong, Parramatta, Wagga Wagga and the Archdiocese of Canberra-Goulburn.
Andrew travels around Australia, New Zealand and the USA each year hosting musical workshops for Primary School children and he also produces a number of CDs and DVDs of Liturgical Music for children. The children in the Butterfly Choir are selected from the best voices that Andrew comes across during his school visits.
“It’s always an amazing moment to hear these voices, from all over the state, sing their first notes together,” said Andrew Chinn. “They were a very sweet choir and very efficient. It took us less than two hours to record all seven songs. It was also a lot of fun, plenty of laughter and smiles.”
The new album featuring the voices of Nyah, Ava and Sophie will be released in digitally and in CD form in December this year reaching a world-wide audience.
